Rama Varma Foundation

RAMAVARMA FOUNDATION FOR ART AND CULTURE (Ramavarma Kala Samskarika Prathishtapanam) is a registered public charitable Trust (2020) standing for the cause of art, culture and heritage. The Foundation envisages ways to protect and promote the priceless and peerless Indian culture, art and heritage for the sake of the posterity. It is bound to rekindle and revive our pride in the massive diversity of our culture which is an amalgam of ancient traditions and rich cultural patterns.

The Foundation is initiated by Shri Ramavarma Thampuran of Kilimanoor Palace (Chairman) and his mother Smt. Vasumathi Bayi Thampuratti (Managing Trustee) bearing the noble tradition of a royal family etched in history, to carry forth the lofty vision of their venerable ancestor Raja Ravivarma, the legendary Painter Prince of the Kilimanoor Palace (1848-1906). Being the proud descendant of the iconic artist and a person of innovative initiatives, Ramavarma Thampuran has already materialised many of his great ancestor’s unfulfilled dreams in the realm of art and culture. The Ramavarma Foundation draws inspiration from the legacy of the great artist and other scholarly predecessors, and is avowed to perpetuate it through manifold activities.

Shri Ramavarma Thampuran, the Chairman of the Foundation is a musician by profession–a renowned singer and film score composer in Indian films. A product of Swathi Thirunal College of Music, Thiruvananthapuram, he has composed for a good number of popular serials, short films, documentaries, music albums and Malayalam movies. He has conducted several musical concerts in India and abroad. He is also the recipient of State, National and International awards during the course of his musical journey. He is also a staunch environmentalist and a socially committed individual involved in a plethora of humanitarian activities.

Aims & Objectives in Brief

* To commence, organize, participate or contribute to activities in the field of art, music, dance, Languages and Literature, Philosophy, Culture and Vedic Science, and to render assistance to various deserving individuals and institutions related to these fields, including awards and scholarships.

* Creating a sense of historical consciousness and genuine love for one’s culture by organizing music festivals, various cultural events and competitions, producing documentaries and movies on relevant topics, publishing books and journals.

* Paying a worthy tribute to Raja Ravivarma by conducting exhibitions, seminars, workshops etc independently or in association with other institutions and organisations.

* Erecting structures like monuments, art galleries, libraries and research centres in memory of the great legends in the Kilimanoor royal family.

* Preserving Nature and natural surroundings, encouraging and promoting Vedas and Vasthuvidya also come within the purview of the Foundation.

*Impelled by an altruistic desire to improve human welfare, the Foundation also envisages to undertake charitable and philanthropic activities in future, providing a much-needed support for worthy causes.
